Classical Guitar Neck Making

Writer's picture: Michael RitchieMichael Ritchie

After preparing the neck blanks square and to the correct thickness the scarf joint is cut and prepared. I use this clamping method to prepare the headstock piece for gluing.

The following picture shows a clearer view of the set up.

Once the glue surface is correctly prepared it is readied for gluing.

I score the glue surface of the head piece to give greater gluing surface and also prevent slip and aid gripping when the clamps are tightened.

Getting ready to clamp!

I use an old snooker table iron to apply heat to the wood being glued. Notice

the blocks and neck glued in the background.
